Nature Inspires

The vow to get in summer shape and pump up the workout is now in gear!  Well, most of these last few months, I have taken to doing a half walk around our local lake here in Elizabethtown, KY.  I found it’s much easier to tread on cushy dirt paths and wooden bridges than my usual hard-as-a-rock concrete/pavement route in the neighborhood.  Easier on the joints.  Nothing feels better than a really good, fast-paced walk…especially with breathing in the fresh air and seeing the latest activity of the duck population (which can be just hilarious).

No minute or hour is wasted on exercise, but why not get the max out of these jaunts?  Why not invest in footwear designed to burn more calories, improve posture and alleviate joint and back pressure?

Enter the Spring Boost Iguana running shoes.  These are perfect for trail gripping and are hydrophobic for quick-drying action (after all, I am at a lake), not to mention they have the ability to tone, strengthen and lengthen core, leg and buttocks muscles.  Perfect!  Definitely worth the investment.

Waking up in the cold

Do you ever have those mornings that no matter what you are wearing the wind pierces through your clothes?  This morning was that kind of morning.  I stood at my front door for a good two minutes watching the wind patterns to try to determine the best time to run to my car with the least amount of wind.  (Yes, I am aware the act of running creates wind….)  Before running to my car I put on my trusty Koolaburra boots.  They are lined with shearling all the way to the toes and they are easy pull ons.   My favorite thing about Koolaburras not only are they super comfy and warm, but they allow me to express myself better than boots of similar styles.   Click here to see what I mean!

Floating in my Fanning flip flops.

I love going on float trips, you can do it in canoes, kayaks or my favorite in giant intertubes.  The problem with floating is shoes choices can be difficult.   Do you wear the unisex boat shoes (no, thank you!) or do you go barefoot (sharp rocks…owww!).  So what do you do?  I found the answer.  They are flip flops made by Reef, they are called the Fanning.  These flip flops are able to get wet and they have lots of cushioning for times you have to get up and walk your boat or tube over the really shallow areas.  These parts are great, but they are not best part of these shoes Go ahead flip them over, they have a bottle opener on the bottom!  See now you know why they make intertubes especially for coolers.  I have the black, which are really men’s.  Since I wear a size 8 M in women’s I just purchased the size 6.0 in men’s and they fit perfectly.   Happy floating!  Check out my Fanning Flip Flops here.

Even Walking Requires the Right Shoe Technology

So I started walking on my treadmill again, and before I knew it, my hips were killing me. A chiropractor visit later, it turned out those old tennis shoes in my closet were worn out! My foot was overpronating because of the lack of cushioning and that was causing my hip pain.

So I thought, since my main exercise is walking, I should get a dedicated walking shoe. Especially now that I found out the innards of a shoe really do make a difference. And I got these: the Tidewater shoe by Propet.

The Tidewater even came in my wide width shoe size! I’ve always heard Propet made good quality shoes specific for walking. And to be honest, I chose them because they had a splash of pink on them.

Long story short. I love ‘em! There’s a shock absorber in the heel, and these walking shoes are super comfortable. And they really do look good on…like regular sneakers…I know you know what I mean! I mean, really, walking shoes? Oh, yes.
